Following an interruption in water services earlier today, the city has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for a portion of the Bayou Oaks neighborhood.

Gerald Boyce, the city utilities department’s manager of compliance and operations, said state regulations required the issuance of the notice. He said that the city is currently conducting tests, but that there is no significant reason to believe the water supply has been contaminated.

The boundaries of the area under boil water notice are:

+ North: 46th Street
+ South: Myrtle Street
+ West: Old Bradenton Road
+ East: Central Avenue.

Residences in the area have been contacted about the notice via telephone, and will be alerted again when the advisory is lifted. Boyce said that, barring any issues, the notice could be lifted in roughly 48 hours.
