Her favorite colors are red, white and black, and her daughter Karyn Henschel saw to it that every single detail of Rosalie Krone’s 90th birthday party was executed in that color scheme. Family gathered from far and near for the Dec. 26 celebration at Michael’s Wine Cellar. Attendees included grandson David Krone, his wife, Amy, and Rosalie’s great-grandchildren Guy, Abigail, Grant and Rachel, from Portland, Ore.; daughter Karyn Henschel and her husband, Jeff, from Bedford, N.Y., and their children Geoffrey and Kelly, both from New York City; son Ken Krone, his wife, Jeanette, granddaughter Kristy, of San Francisco, and granddaughter Jackie, from Los Angeles; and the son and daughter-in-law of Rosalie’s partner, David Young: Mark and Rachel Young, from Washington, D.C.

+ Copa for a Copa Girl
Given that honoree Gloria Moss is widely known for having been a Copacabana girl, the co-chairs of the Generations gala benefiting the Jewish Housing Council Foundation didn’t have to go far to find a theme. Carolyn Michel, Michael Sheldon and Chris Jennings are overseeing the transformation of Michael’s On East ballroom into a nightclub. The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will entertain; the Notables will play for dancing; and Gloria, herself, will perform with her ballroom partner, Jim Helmich. This year, one of Sarasota’s favorite events will honor two of Sarasota’s favorite men when the Circus Sarasota gala salutes Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini on the 25th anniversary of their restaurant, Michael’s On East. And how fitting: The honorees are alimentary acrobats, social strong men and the ultimate quick-change act. Just watch them transform their ballroom from a children’s candy land in the afternoon to a sophisticated soiree in the evening. Why, it’s almost magic!

Proceeds from the event will be dedicated to completing Circus Sarasota’s capital campaign, which is purchasing the show’s own Big Top, named for Ulla Searing in honor of her generous bequest. Wardrobe call for guests is “circus glamorous with sensible shoes” — costumes, as always, are welcome.
