Cockroaches attack Justin Mosely ...
APRIL FOOLS! But only kind of. You remember Justin Mosely — our local SNN weather forecaster who famously freaked when a cockroach joined him on set? When he took the stage April 1 to introduce the Sarasota Film Festival’s opening night film, he found a few dozen plastic cockroaches waiting for him. The audience had no idea why he was laughing hysterically, until his co-host took the mic and let them in on the practical joke.

Designers support Designing Daughters
Black Tie loves a good girls night out, so we have marked our calendars for April 14, and you should, too. The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota is hosting “Girlfriends Night” to benefit Designing Daughters, and an entire fleet of local designers will come together for an evening at the spa. The talented ladies of Bourbon and Boweties, Camilyn Beth, Hayden Reis, OTG 247, Sail to Sable, Shannon Kirsten and Tracy Negoshian will be making appearances and selling their accessories and apparel during the night. Expect great shopping, mini treatments, a bubble bar and hors’d’oeurves with your girls.

Easter at the White House
Diana and Matt Buchanan (and Lilly and George, of course) joined Congressman Vern and Sandy Buchanan in D.C. for the president’s annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Easter Sunday. Diana and Lilly were spotted wearing custom matching dresses, designed by a local, Camilyn Beth.

Fruit salad for dessert
Friendship Centers hit one out of the park at its 7th annual gala held at its Sarasota center April 3. The organization delivered its “Friendship Around the World” theme beautifully in everything from multinational appetizers to a green screen photo booth that could put subjects anywhere in the world they wanted to be. Beautiful Sei of Polynesia entertained with dances from four islands, but their best moments featured participants “recruited” (“shanghaied” might be a better word) from the audience. They learned to shift hips to the left when the leader said “pineapple,” to the right for “watermelon” and so on. You can guess what “fruit salad” was.

Honoring THE Supergirl
The late Donna Brace Ogilvie was honored at Girls Inc.’s Celebration Luncheon on April 1, and her tribute was felt through the ballroom when Girls Inc. Girl Rachel Mallet spoke about Ogilvie, touching on their relationship and the impact she had on her personally and the other girls at Girls Inc. “The legacy she left behind is permanently ingrained in Girls Inc history,” said Mallet, “As a woman born in the early 1900s, Ms. Donna would have faced numerous barriers from the world around her. Yet when we look at who she was as a person, she was the embodiment of every trait we look for and see in a Girls Inc girl. She was strong, smart and bold, but with a necessary twist — she was real.” Beautifully said, Rachel.
