To the surprise of the Tara Preserve Community Development District board of supervisors, Vice Chairwoman Beth Bond turned in her CDD vest, key and tablet at the end of today’s meeting and announced her retirement from seat one.

“There are a lot of smart, talented, educated people in this community… I’d like to give them the chance to serve,” Bond said.

Bond also said that the board had many long-standing members, and that could be a deterrent for people to want to run for the office.

“We need to get new people on this board,” she said.

Supervisor John Schmidt told the board that it should recognize Bond’s work for the community with a plaque to demonstrate its thanks.

Bond has lived in Tara Preserve for 12 years, and she immediately got involved in the community’s authoritative bodies. She served as the chairwoman for the Tara Master Association’s architectural review committee for three years and sat on the Masters board of directors for three years before spending five on the CDD.

Her vacancy will require the board to appoint an interim supervisor until candidates can file with the county in June 2016 to run for the November 2016 election of her seat.

“It’s a chance to advocate for your neighborhood and your community,” she said. “It takes a tremendous amount of time, but it can be satisfying to know you made a contribution. “
