The former Bay Isles Shell gas station, 505 Bay Isles Road, was reduced to rubble Monday, June 1. When former owner Louy Freija chose not to renew his lease in April, Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets Inc., which bought Town Plaza I in September 2008, decided to knock down the gas-station building, remove the fuel tanks and replace them with landscaping and additional parking spaces.
