The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Lakewood Ranch High senior Rachel Slowik went 4-for-4 with two home runs, two doubles and five RBIs in the Lady Mustangs 11-6 come-from-behind victory over rival Braden River in a Class 4A-Region 3 semifinal April 30, propelling Lakewood to its first-ever regional final.

Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What do you enjoy the most about softball?
I like that it’s a team sport, and you have to rely on your teammates a lot. It’s challenging, and it makes me think.

What is the biggest adjustment you’re going to have to make from playing high school softball to playing collegiate softball next year at Florida International University?
I think it’s just the players you’re around. Everyone is in the same boat. They’re all great players, and the pitching is going to be (better) because they have the opportunity to recruit, whereas in high school you’re stuck with what you get.

What is your fondest softball memory?
Nationals this past summer in Oklahoma City. We got to play on the field where they play the College World Series. It was just a lot of fun and a good experience.

How many siblings do you have?
Three. I have a twin sister, Becca, and two older brothers — Matt, who is 28, and Andy, who is 21.

What do you enjoy the most about being a twin?
You always have someone there to support you and be there for you. There’s a lot of things you get to enjoy together and a lot memories.

What’s your favorite TV show?
“The Biggest Loser.” I think it’s encouraging, and it’s fun to watch. It’s a good show.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Pittsburgh, Pa. I have a lot of extended family there, and I like spending time with them.
