The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Out-of-Door Academy senior captain Michelle Ramos captured a pair of singles victories and a pair of doubles victories this week, leading the Lady Thunder past Cardinal Mooney and Bradenton Christian. In her fifth year with the team, the No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles player has helped lead ODA to a 2-0 record so far this season.

Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What do you enjoy the most about playing tennis?
I’ve been playing tennis since I was really little, so it’s a sport I’ve been doing my whole life. I’ve been able to meet a lot of people through it, and I used to play in a lot of tournaments.

Do you prefer playing singles or doubles?
Doubles. I just prefer playing with another person. It’s more fun and a little bit less stressful in a way because you can have more fun with it and be with another player.

What is your biggest tennis accomplishment?
In high school tennis, I would have to say I think it was my sophomore year when I won districts. The last year my doubles partner Caroline (Dailey) and I won districts and regionals and went to states.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I’m not 100% sure yet, but I’m thinking probably something in the medical field.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Africa. I think it’d be a good experience. I’ve been to South America a lot; and Europe seems to be a lot like South America. I’m going to Europe this summer, and I think Africa would be a new experience.

Are you from Florida originally?
No, I was born in Atlanta, but my family is from Ecuador. I lived in Miami for five years. Then I moved back to Ecuador and then my family moved to Sarasota when I was 8 years old.
