ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Justin Klawans

The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Eleven-year-old Justin Klawans pitched a complete game in the District 26 County Cup Minors Championship May 25, propelling Manatee East Little League’s Czai & Gallagher to the league’s first County Cup victory.

Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What do you enjoy the most about baseball?
Pitching. I feel like I’m in control of the game.

How did you get into baseball?
A lot of my friends were playing, so I decided to try the sport and see how I did.

Who is your favorite baseball player?
Carl Crawford. He knows how to play the game, and he plays it right.

Do you play any other sports besides baseball?
I play basketball, tennis and football.

If you could go anywhere on vacation, where would it be and why?
Hawaii. It’s relaxing.

Do you have any siblings?
I have a twin brother named Ryan.

What’s the best part about being a twin?
You have someone to play with all of the time.

What’s your favorite amusement park?
Busch Gardens. Since I’ve gotten taller I can go on all the rides like SheiKra.

What’s your favorite subject?
Math. I’m good at it.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A Major League Baseball player.

What’s your favorite food?
Steak.

What’s your favorite video game?
Sports video games.

Do you have a favorite TV show?

I don’t watch a lot of TV, but when I do, I like watching (Tampa Bay) Rays games.
