Cops Report 
An April 4, 1974, sheriff’s report stated intruders broke into The Keyhole, in the Siesta Key Village, by forcing the door open. The only things stolen were two cans of beer.

Classifieds
The April 4, 1985, classifieds in the Pelican Press boasted a one-bedroom, two-bath, fully-furnished apartment on Siesta Key with pool, boat dock and beach access could be rented for $450 a month from the months of April to December.

1997
County opens new park near 17th Street
Sarasota County Parks and Recreation opened North Metro Park, formerly known as the APAC Pits, according to the April 3, 1997, issue of the Pelican Press. The 600-acre metropolitan park was said to have great fishing and hiking. Today the park is known as Nathan Benderson Park and is located at 2500 N. Honore Ave. It has become a well-known recreational venue providing the public access to several lakes for non-motorized boating, fishing, bird-watching and related activities. It’s also home to a world-class rowing facility.

1974
The Palm Island Kitchen Cookie Band performs nontraditional music
The Palm Island Kitchen Cookie Band entertained Palm Island Association members April 5, 1974, at the annual dinner meeting at the Gulf Gate Country Club. The musical program included the band’s three original songs. But, the hit song of the evening was the new Palm Island theme song, a parody of the “Hello Dolly” tune “Hey! Look Me Over.” Frank Moody played the piano and was accompanied by washboards, bazookas, pots and pans.
