Sarasota County government has seen another top official resign — the second this week.

Susan Scott was a former deputy county administrator, who was demoted last year to director of communications.

She had been essentially the third-highest ranked county official behind current Deputy County Administrator Dave Bullock and Jim Ley, who resigned in May as county administrator amid a purchasing scandal.

Interim County Administrator Terry Lewis said Scott’s resignation was not linked to the scandal, which has claimed the jobs of 10 other county employees, either through resignation or firing.

“I can say 100%, it has nothing to do with that,” he said.

Lewis just wanted to see the communications department move in a different direction, he said.

On Monday, Sarasota County Chief Financial Planner Jeff Seward resigned, after coming under fire for his role in the purchasing scandal.
