Ancient Oaks Gun Club shoots for second annual United Way event

Local gun enthusiasts are ready to aim and fire for a cause.

Manatee County Government is hosting the second annual United Way Clay Shoot starting at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 7, at the Ancient Oaks Gun Club, 16800 State Road 64. E., Lakewood Ranch.

Registration beings at 8 a.m. the day of the event, followed by a brief safety discussion and shooting at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon.

Awards will be distributed at 2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place teams, along with the best overall shooter. 

The Butch Castetter Band will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

Cost is $75 per shooter before Jan. 30 or $85 per shooter, or $340 for a four-member team Jan. 31 and later.

Lunch and ammunition are included in admission prices. All proceeds benefit the United Way of Manatee.

The event is open to the public and welcomes beginning- and advanced-level shooters. Four-person teams will compete in a 50-bird shootout during the event.

The Gun Club has 24 shooting stations on two separate courses.
