Alta Vista construction begins

Portions of Alta Vista roads will be closed beginning Monday, July 22, through Aug. 9, while the city of Sarasota works on crosswalks at three intersections, said Project Manager Tony Russo.

The intersection of School Avenue and Novus Street will be closed July 22, through July 27, while construction crews install new brick crosswalks. There will be a detour directing southbound traffic on School Avenue to Shade Avenue and from there to Hatton Street and back to School Avenue.

The city will close the intersection of School Avenue and Wood Street (East) from July 29, through August 3, while workers re-stripe crosswalks. There will be a detour directing southbound traffic on School Avenue to Shade Avenue and from there to Hatton Street back to School Avenue.

And Wood Street (West) will be closed near School Avenue from Aug. 5, through Aug. 9. There will be a detour directing northbound traffic on Tamiami Trail at Wood Street to Ringling Boulevard to School Avenue and southbound on Tamiami Trail to Bahia Vista Street to School Avenue.
