If so, you could be the right candidate for the news reporter position at the East County Observer.
The East County Observer is part of the Observer Media Group, a family-owned and operated multimedia company based in Sarasota, Fla. The company publishes nine weekly newspapers throughout Florida, along with six websites. Altogether, our newspapers and websites reach more than 240,000 readers each week.
We’re looking for a self-starter who will work out of our Lakewood Ranch office on Main Street and quickly become the go-to person for all news and enterprise stories related to East County. You’ll report on local government and politics, real estate/development, tourism, insurance, breaking news. The position offers the opportunity to maximize the impact of your writing and reporting.
The Observer Media Group's newspapers are consistently recognized as some of the best publications in the state and the nation. In 2012 and 2013, Local Media Association named two of our newspapers, the Longboat Observer and Sarasota Observer, the top newspapers in North America for their respective categories.
The right candidate must be able to develop a network of sources who range from elected officials to neighborhood residents. Editors and writers with years of experience in East County will help point you in the right direction. With our hyper-local coverage, we need a reporter who can become a part of the community to discover and report what matters most to our readers. Photography/video skills are a plus.
